Take me back to 1998 when I started running. Little did I know about proper footwear and clothing until I joined a running clinic. I soon became a knowledgeable runner and learned to enjoy my workouts while enhancing my performance.

At the same time, I never thought about the hair accessories I needed for my runs. When my hair wasn’t pulled back properly into a ponytail with a quality elastic band, it would get in my face. I had a bad hair day once when the elastic band broke, and my long hair flew into my face, making for an unenjoyable run.

As for makeup, I wear very little except for mascara. I love the healthy glow I get after a workout.

Here are my basic hair and makeup tips for my runs:

  • I wear slide-proof elastic bands that keep my hair in place, whether I’m running fast or long.
  • Sometimes, I wear a non-slip headband, which is great for hot days. It helps prevent sweat from running down my face and into my eyes. In the winter, it also helps keep my ears warm.
  • Bobby pins are great for holding hair in place. Some days, I like to wear my hair down, but I tend to wear a cap. Either way, I use some kind of accessory to keep my hair out of my face.
  • When it comes to skincare, I wear SPF 50 UVA/UVB protection almost year-round. After my run, I use a moisturizer to keep my skin hydrated.
  • If I wear mascara, it’s because I’m heading to a coffee meeting after my run. I always use the waterproof, sweat-proof kind, which you can easily find at most stores.

There are so many hair accessories and beauty products to choose from, no matter what workout routine you follow, and with the right ones, you can feel confident and look great while staying active!
